Phi-Ion® (also known as Plasma Pen or Fibroblast Treatment) is a non-surgical, non-invasive medical-aesthetic procedure designed to tighten, lift and rejuvenate the skin by stimulating the body’s natural collagen and elastin production.
This advanced plasma technology creates controlled micro-points on the skin surface, triggering a natural healing response that results in skin tightening, improved texture and visible rejuvenation — without surgery, cutting or injections.
What is Phi-Ion® / Plasma Pen Treatment?
Phi-Ion® uses plasma energy generated by a specialised handheld device. The device creates tiny, controlled plasma points without direct contact with the skin, causing immediate contraction of skin fibres and stimulating long-term regeneration.
This process helps to:

Fitzpatrick Skin Type & Safety (Important)
Phi-Ion® / Plasma Pen treatment is recommended only for Fitzpatrick skin types I to III.
Patients with Fitzpatrick skin types IV to VI have a significantly higher risk of complications, including:
- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH)
- Prolonged or uneven healing
- Scarring
For this reason, Phi-Ion® is not recommended for darker skin types.
A mandatory consultation and skin assessment is required before treatment to determine skin type, suitability and safety.
Why the Fitzpatrick Scale Matters
The Fitzpatrick Skin Type Scale classifies skin from Type I (very fair) to Type VI (very dark) based on how the skin reacts to sun exposure.
This allows practitioners to:

- Minimise pigmentation risks
- Personalise treatment protocols
Phi-Ion® is performed only when skin type, skin condition and medical history indicate that the treatment is safe and appropriate.
The Treatment Procedure
Before Treatment
- Full consultation and medical history review

- Area cleansed and prepared
- Topical anaesthetic cream applied for comfort
During Treatment
- Plasma device creates small, controlled plasma points
- Treatment duration varies depending on the area
- Approx. 30 minutes to 2 hours
- Mild discomfort only, due to numbing cream
After Treatment & Recovery
Following treatment, it is normal to experience:
- Redness
- Swelling
- Small crusts or scabs
These effects are part of the natural healing process.
Aftercare (Essential)
- Avoid sun exposure for a minimum of 7 days
- Use a high-protection SPF
- Do not pick or remove crusts
- Follow all aftercare instructions carefully
Healing times vary, and final results continue to develop over several weeks.
Results & Skin Ageing
Some tightening may be visible immediately due to skin contraction. Final results develop progressively as collagen production increases.
While Phi-Ion® provides long-lasting rejuvenation, skin ageing is a natural and ongoing biological process that cannot be stopped. Genetics, lifestyle, sun exposure and time will continue to influence the skin.
However, with appropriate treatments, professional skincare, sun protection and healthy habits, the ageing process can be effectively managed and the quality, firmness and appearance of the skin can be maintained over time. Maintenance treatments may be recommended.
Contraindications
Phi-Ion® / Plasma Pen treatment is not suitable if you:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have active skin infections or inflammatory skin conditions
- Have a history of keloid scarring
- Have blood-clotting disorders or are taking anticoagulants
- Have autoimmune or immunodeficiency conditions
All contraindications are reviewed during consultation.
Treatment Programme
Phi-Ion® is usually performed as a treatment programme, not always as a single session.
- Some patients require 1 session
- Others may need 2–3 sessions, spaced 12-24 weeks apart
- Results improve progressively
